What is going on with the roof?

Up to three local contractors, and never more.

Step 1 of 6

What best describes your home?

Different buildings need different crews, so this is the first thing a roofer asks.

Free, fast, and no obligation to hire anyone.

What you are actually getting

Licensed and insured.Checked before a contractor can receive requests.
You are not committing to anything.Take the numbers, use them, and walk away if you like.
About a minute.Three questions and your details. Most requests reach a contractor the same day.

Three steps, about a minute

Nothing to download, nobody to ring, no account to make. You answer the questions and the calls come to you.

Answer three questions

What kind of home it is, when you want the work done, and how you are hoping to pay. Then the address, and how to reach you. That is the whole thingvolved. No essays.

It goes to local crews

We route it to roofing companies covering your ZIP — the ones who do this kind of work, not whoever paid the most.

You compare and decide

Three quotes at most. They come out, look at the roof, and give you a number. Nothing obliges you to accept any of them.

What roofs are up against in Hawaiian Gardens

Sitting around 10 miles back from the water softens the salt but not the onshore weather. With a population near 13,457, Hawaiian Gardens covers about 4 square miles of Los Angeles County. Plots run generous, so the square footage being quoted is often larger than homeowners expect.

The failure that leads here is morning fog that sits on the roof until mid-morning. It is why two identical houses on the same street can be ten years apart on the same roof, depending on which way they face.

Then, less dramatically: sudden dry winds that test every lifted edge on the roof. Dry offshore wind lifts material that damp coastal air had been holding down. Most wind losses here happen on a handful of nights a year.

None of which is unusual for a roofer who works here every week. It is only unusual to a crew who does not.

Ember and wildfire exposure

Most houses lost to wildfire are lost to embers arriving ahead of the fire, not to the fire itself.

What this saves you

You are not on a list

Three contractors is a hard cap. It is the difference between comparing quotes and being sold to for a fortnight.

Faster than ringing round

The awkward part of getting quotes is the fifth phone call, not the first. This does that part once.

The search results are an auction

The top of a search page is whoever bid most this morning, not whoever is nearest or best. Being first in an advert says nothing about the roof.

You stay in control

You hire the contractor directly, on your terms. We are not a party to the contract and we take no cut of the job.

Installed cost ranges, Hawaiian Gardens, CA. One square = 100 square feet.
CoveringPer squareTypical whole roofExpected life
Architectural asphalt shingleThe default choice on most American homes, and usually the right one.$625 – $950$11,500 – $25,50025 to 30 years
3-tab asphalt shingleThe cheapest thing that still counts as a roof. Fewer and fewer crews will install it.$525 – $700$9,500 – $19,00015 to 20 years
Impact-rated asphalt shingleClass 4 rated. Often earns an insurance discount where hail is a factor.$825 – $1,300$15,000 – $35,00025 to 35 years
Concrete tileThe tile lasts far longer than the underlayment beneath it, which is the catch.$1,200 – $2,000$21,500 – $54,00040 to 60 years
Clay barrel tileOften salvaged and re-laid over new underlayment rather than replaced.$1,700 – $3,200$30,500 – $86,50050 to 80 years

What moves the number

  • Warranty tier, which is really a question about who honours it in fifteen years
  • Whether the valleys, drip edge and step flashing are being replaced or reused
  • Permit and inspection fees, which vary more between towns than people expect
  • Ventilation work, if the old roof was cooking itself from underneath
  • Where you land in the season; crews discount when the phone is quiet

Common repairs

Emergency tarp-over$400 – $1,200
Small leak, flashing or a few shingles$475 – $1,200
Valley, chimney or skylight reflash$975 – $2,900
Section replacement, one slope$1,500 – $5,200

What is behind these figures. National installed ranges, adjusted for California labour and material costs and for how Hawaiian Gardens is actually built. They are a sanity check on the quotes you receive, nothing more. No contractor is bound by them.

Is your roof due? A two-field check

When it was last done and what it is made of gets you most of the way to the answer. No contact details, nothing sent anywhere — the arithmetic happens in your browser.

Do not know? Use the year the house was built. That is what a roofer assumes until they get up there.

Not sure between shingle types? Architectural is the thicker, layered-looking one and is the usual answer.

Questions people ask

Why does ventilation keep coming up?

Because a badly ventilated attic cooks the roof from underneath and takes years off it. Intake at the eaves and exhaust at the ridge, in balance. It is cheap during a re-roof and awkward afterwards.

Is this really free?

Yes. You pay nothing, now or later. Roofing contractors pay us for the introduction, which is why the service costs you nothing and why we are upfront that it is how we make money.

It is leaking right now. What do I do?

Move what you can out of the way, put a bucket under it, and if there is a bulge in the ceiling put a small hole at its lowest point to let the water out in one place rather than bringing the whole panel down. Then mark your request as an emergency — those go out first.

How much deposit is normal?

Ten to thirty per cent is ordinary, and is often used to order material. A demand for full payment up front is a reason to walk away.

Is moss on the roof a problem?

Yes, eventually. Moss holds water against the shingle and lifts the edges as it thickens. Zinc or copper strip at the ridge suppresses it. Pressure washing an asphalt roof strips the granules and does more harm than the moss did.

What warranty should I expect?

Two separate things. The manufacturer covers the material for its rated life, but only if it was installed to their specification. The contractor covers workmanship, commonly five to ten years, and only for as long as they are trading.

Can I just put a new roof over the old one?

Often you legally can, and it is usually a poor idea. Overlaying hides the condition of the decking, adds weight, shortens the life of the new shingles by trapping heat, and doubles the cost of the next tear-off.

How long does a re-roof take?

A straightforward asphalt roof on an average house is one to three days. Tile, slate and complex rooflines take longer, and weather stops work more often than anything else.

Are you a roofing company?

No. Alpine Roofing Co. of Hawaiian Gardens is a free matching service. We do not hold a roofing licence, we do not employ crews, and we never come to your house. We pass your request to independent local contractors who do the work and who you hire directly.

Ready to see numbers?

No cost, no obligation, and never more than three contractors.
